At Cricket Club Zwolle, we care about sportsmanship, respect, discipline and taking responsibility. We want to be a club where everyone enjoys their cricket, where people do what they say they’ll do, and where members work together to build a strong club.
We expect every member to get involved and to treat others with respect. Our rules are clear and we keep it simple: everyone is responsible for their own behaviour, their team and the club.
These rules and this code of conduct apply to all members at training sessions, matches, club events and any other activities organised by Cricket Club Zwolle.
1. General club rules
- Every member helps create a positive, respectful and sporting atmosphere at the club.
- Members treat teammates, opponents, umpires, officials, volunteers and visitors with respect.
- Agreements made by the committee and team management are honoured.
- Discrimination, intimidation, threats, bullying and violence are not accepted.
- Members take good care of the club’s facilities, equipment and property.
- Everyone takes responsibility for their own behaviour and helps the club run smoothly.
- Members represent Cricket Club Zwolle with respect, on and off the field.
2. Conduct during matches
Cricket is a game built on respect for the opposition, the umpire and the Laws of the game. We expect every player to play in the right spirit, even when the game gets tense or a decision doesn’t go their way.
- Respect the umpire: the umpire’s decision is final. Repeated protesting, arguing on the field and reacting aggressively are not allowed.
- Respect the opposition: insults, provocation, intimidation and unsporting behaviour will not be tolerated.
- Fair play: players follow the Laws of Cricket and the relevant league regulations.
- Team spirit: players back each other up and handle mistakes, disappointments and disagreements respectfully.
- Winning and losing: we accept the result with dignity and show appreciation for our opponents.
- Equipment: cricket gear is handled with care and put away properly afterwards.
- No arguments on the field: disagreements about decisions are not fought out during the match. Any concerns are raised in an appropriate way, away from the game itself.
3. Training and attendance
Being prepared and reliable makes it much easier to organise training and matches.
- Players let us know their availability in good time through the agreed channel, such as Spond.
- If you can’t make it, let us know as early as possible.
- Players arrive on time and are ready to start at the agreed time.
- Training is taken seriously, with respect for teammates and coaches.
- Players help set up and pack away equipment when needed.
- Repeatedly turning up late or missing sessions without notice will be discussed and may lead to a warning.
- Every player is responsible for their own preparation and effort.
4. Team selection and the committee’s role
The committee of Cricket Club Zwolle is responsible for selecting the match squads for both teams.
- The committee picks the squads based on availability, commitment, performance, what the team needs and the league rules that apply.
- Players confirm their availability in good time so the squad can be picked carefully.
- Selection decisions made by the committee are respected.
- Questions or concerns about selection are discussed calmly and respectfully, not by starting arguments or spoiling the team atmosphere.
- The team captain is responsible for organising and leading the team at training and matches.
- Every player is expected to stick to team agreements and contribute to the team’s result.
5. Respect and how we treat each other
A good club depends on respectful communication and every member taking responsibility.
- We speak to each other respectfully.
- Disagreements are discussed calmly, without personal attacks.
- Swearing at others, threats, discrimination, bullying and physical violence are not accepted.
- Problems within a team are first discussed with the people involved where possible. If needed, the committee will step in.
- Personal conflicts are not fought out at training, matches or club events.
- Members handle confidential information about other members and internal club matters with care.
- Every member is expected to help create a safe and welcoming environment, whatever someone’s background, experience or level.
6. Membership and fees
6.1 Membership year
The Cricket Club Zwolle membership year runs from 1 January to 31 December.
6.2 Paying your fees
- The full annual membership fee is due from 1 January of each membership year.
- Members are responsible for paying their membership fee and any additional contributions on time.
- New members who join during the year pay their fee according to the joining arrangement in place when they sign up.
- If you expect to have trouble paying, please contact the committee early so we can discuss the options.
- Not taking part in training or matches does not release a member from their payment obligations.
Current membership fees and any additional contributions are listed on the membership page of the website.
6.3 Cancelling your membership
- Cancellations must be sent to the committee in writing.
- To end your membership from 1 January, your cancellation must be received by 31 December of the previous year at the latest.
- If you don’t cancel in writing in time, the full membership fee for the following year is still due.
- Stopping training, not being available for matches or no longer using the facilities does not count as cancelling your membership.
7. Scoring, umpiring and volunteer duties
Running matches takes effort from players and volunteers. Everyone helps make the league fair and well organised.
- Players take part in sharing out agreed duties, such as scoring, umpiring and looking after equipment.
- If you’re scheduled for a duty, you carry it out properly and as agreed.
- If you can’t make it, let us know as early as possible so a replacement can be arranged.
- The scorer records the match carefully and in line with the rules.
- Players show respect for the people carrying out these duties.
- Not keeping to agreements without a good reason is not accepted.
Fine for missing a scoring duty
If a player doesn’t turn up for a scoring duty they had agreed to, a fine of €25 may be issued in line with club policy. The player will be informed.
8. Looking after the clubhouse and facilities
Everyone who uses the clubhouse or facilities of Cricket Club Zwolle shares responsibility for leaving them clean and tidy.
- The clubhouse, changing rooms and any other areas used are left tidy after use.
- Rubbish is cleared away and equipment is put back where it belongs.
- Tables, chairs, kitchen facilities and anything else used are left clean and tidy.
- Players take responsibility for their own belongings and help out when a group tidy-up is needed.
- Any damage, faults or other problems are reported straight away to the person in charge.
- Assuming someone else will clear up is not acceptable. Every member is responsible for keeping the facilities tidy.
- After training, matches and club events, we check that the areas used have been left tidy.
9. Safety and use of equipment
- Players follow the safety instructions that apply at training and matches.
- Protective equipment is worn whenever the Laws of the game or the conditions require it.
- Unsafe situations, damage and faulty equipment are reported straight away to the person in charge.
- Cricket equipment is used with care and returned to its agreed place afterwards.
- Damage caused deliberately or through negligence may be investigated. Any liability will be assessed according to the applicable rules and law.
10. Alcohol, drugs and unacceptable behaviour
- Players must not put themselves or others at risk through alcohol or drug use during club activities.
- The use of illegal drugs during club activities is not allowed.
- Threats, violence, discrimination and sexual harassment are taken seriously.
- If someone’s behaviour creates an immediate safety risk, the committee or the person running the activity may step in straight away.
- Every member is expected to help keep the club safe for players, volunteers, visitors and opponents.
11. Clear rules and disciplinary measures
Cricket Club Zwolle has a clear, no-nonsense approach. Respect, discipline and keeping to agreements are conditions for playing in our teams and for club membership.
If the rules are broken, this is how we deal with it:
First warning
The member is spoken to about their behaviour and receives a warning. The warning is recorded.
Second warning
A second breach will, in line with club policy, lead to removal from the team, and the process of ending the membership will be started in line with the club’s articles of association and rules.
Serious breaches
In the case of serious incidents, such as violence, threats, discrimination or other serious misconduct, the committee may take appropriate action straight away, without first giving two warnings.
Assessment and procedure
- The committee assesses any breaches and decides on disciplinary measures.
- Warnings are recorded so it is clear what action has been taken before.
- The member concerned is told the reason for the measure and is given the chance to respond.
- Measures are proportionate and in line with the articles of association, the relevant KNCB regulations and the law.
At Cricket Club Zwolle, we expect everyone to take responsibility. Agreements are there to be kept, and respect is not up for debate.
12. Acknowledging these rules
When signing up, new members confirm by ticking the relevant box that they have read the rules and code of conduct of Cricket Club Zwolle.
We expect every member to respect these agreements and to help build a safe, sporting and well-organised club.
13. Final provisions
The committee of Cricket Club Zwolle is responsible for applying these rules and this code of conduct, and for updating them when needed.
In situations these rules don’t cover, the committee will decide based on the articles of association, the relevant league regulations and the law.
As a member of Cricket Club Zwolle, you are expected to read these rules and do your best to follow them.
Together we stand for sportsmanship, discipline, responsibility and Cricket Club Zwolle.
